Current Newsletter- June #2

Hello R4P Bikers and Support Crew,

Below is detailed information about Saturday’s ride and after party.

The Plan:

We will meet at 9am at the home of Kellie and Craig Ronald (475 High St. Extension, Fairport, NY 14450) on Saturday, June 20. It’s a cedar house set back on the north side of the road. Your GPS may take you to the middle of the woods.

It would be ideal if everyone could park their car at the Dudley/Northside School (211 Hamilton Rd. Fairport, NY 14450) and ride the ½ mile to the Ronald’s house. You’re welcome to drop things at the house before you park in the lot. Parking along the road is also available, but only in front of the wooded section. Please don’t park in front of any homes.

Come dressed in your Ride 4 Pride shirt, fed, and ready to ride. There will be some time to fill water bottles, pump tires, use the restroom, hand in any last-minute donations, and enjoy some coffee and donuts. We’ll have sunscreen, anti-chafing cream, and electrolyte powder available for you.

Maps of the ride are on our website (Ride4Pride.org) on the logistics page (password: R4P). We will have printed copies available for everyone the morning of the ride. However, if you like a higher tech approach, there are two GPS options as well, Google Maps and Ride with GPS. Volunteer David Frier has graciously gotten us a group subscription to Ride with GPS. You’ll find the information and link to register on our logistics page. Sign up and you’ll be able to use the audio turn-by-turn directions on this app for free.

On your paper map you will find the names and numbers of our wonderful sag hags, the people who will rescue you if you need help. If you’d like to get these numbers in your phone early, they are: Joe 585-269-8974 and Anastasia 585-261-1156.

The ride is mostly flat for the first 2/3rds and then somewhat hilly. It is a 50-mile loop ride with three rest stops along the way, all of which have bathrooms, food, and water. Turns will be marked on the road with yellow arrows.

This is not a race and everyone can ride at their own speed. Co-coordinators Alec and Jeannie will be participating in the ride and will help assess your progress and speed. Volunteers Bonnie and Chuck will be on hand at lunch to give riders a magical boost forward if needed. As you’ll read below, everyone must be back at Kellie and Craig’s house by 5:30pm.

Required Stuff to Bring (or a damn good idea):

  • Bike in good working condition with tires pumped to the proper pressure
  • Water bottle
  • Helmet (required!)
  • Fully charged phone
  • Weather dependent items: lip balm and sunglasses vs rain jacket and extra dry clothes
  • Extra inner tube that fits your bike (even if you don’t know how to repair a tire it’s helpful to have a tube so someone can help you)

Optional Stuff to Bring:

  • Any check or cash donations (please label envelope with your name and the amount)
  • Extra cash for wine tasting at lunch, if you’re interested
  • Extra snacks (just in case or for people with special diets)
  • Bike lights for visibility
  • Cycling gloves
  • Padded bike shorts
  • Bike lock (if you want to lock your bike to your car rack while we party)
  • Towel, change of clothes, and a bathing suit for hot tubbing (You are welcome to leave personal items inside Kellie and Craig’s home on the table provided in the living room. Please help us out by labeling your bags. Kellie and Craig will post photos of all sports bras left behind.)
